Well, what can we say! The return of our ‘Plant, Construction & Quarry’ Awards exceeded even our high expectations. Favourable comments have been many from all those who attended and participated in what was a truly memorable night in Belfast.
Now firmly back on the calendar after a seven year absence, the awards attracted very strong support from all the main players in the various sectors of our vibrant and ever changing industry – and we thank you all, for without you, it would not have been possible.
This issue carries a comprehensive look back at the awards in words and pictures, highlighting who won what and why; if you weren’t among the winners, there’s always next year!
Since our last edition, events have taken a turn for the better up on the hill, with politicians finally agreeing on a way forward, and that can only be good news for our
hard-pressed industry, although funding challenges remain, not least for the road maintenance programme. Let’s hope there’s better news when the NI Executive publish their 2016/17 budget at the end of January.
On another subject: one quite shocking statistic has emerged in recent weeks, with a report claiming that less than half of local construction workers have construction related qualifications and almost 1 in 5 of them feel they would benefit from training in Essential Skills. The figures have been revealed in a recent survey of 100 Northern Ireland workers by the CITB NI, more on which you can read in this issue.
Also in this issue, we take a look at the latest excavators and telehandlers on the market, and local companies in the news include hydraulic hose experts Pirtek, plant and machinery dealer DA Forgie, McHale Plant Sales and GrahamConstruction, while our view from the cab is from one of Manitou’s latest telehandlers – plus all the very latest news and views from right across the industry.
That’s all for now; we hope you had an enjoyable Xmas and trust the New Year will be kind to you.
