An extensive programme of work for NI Water at Glenhordial Water Treatment Works (WTW) outside Omagh, has been completed by Castlederg-based Lowry Building & Civil Engineering.
The improvements were carried out as part of NI Water’s base maintenance programme, which involves an investment of around £10m every year to ensure the company’s 18 water treatment works continue to provide high quality drinking water to customers right across NI.
Speaking about the improvements at Glenhordial, Zama Dilworth, NI Water Project Manager said: “The work at Glenhordial carried out by Lowry Building & Civil Engineering and their Campsie-based mechanical/electrical partner LSR, involved the replacement of many key elements within the WTW, which were nearing the end of their useful lifespan.
“The work was carefully planned to ensure there were no disruptions to the water treatment process during any part of the upgrade. One of the most notable aspects of work – which took meticulous coordination – was the replacement of some of the tanks which had to be craned in through sections of the roof.
“NI Water’s base maintenance programme is an integral part of the company’s multi-million-pound capital delivery plan and involves the upkeep of water treatment works, wastewater treatment works and pumping stations every single day. Coordination with our customer and operations colleagues to ensure that facilities operate as normal during any maintenance work is fundamental to the success of the programme.
“I’d like to pay tribute to LBCE and LSR, as well as our project management support team from TetraTech and SBE for ensuring that the improvements at Glenhordial ran so smoothly.”
