Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd recently visited ReCon Waste Management Ltd in Portadown to find out how the company finds recycling and recovery solutions for materials that would have previously been viewed as waste and traditionally sent to landfill.
The Minister was given a tour of the facility by Technical Director Mark Hamill and heard about new initiatives being advanced by the company, including the sustainable use of excavated sub soils for re-instatement in utilities and infrastructure projects.

“It was fascinating to hear from ReCon about how everyday items which we often just throw away, can be recycled and reintroduced for use across many different sectors including the construction industry.
“This is a good example of the circular economy working in practice and I look forward to seeing how innovative waste management develops materials that could be used in infrastructure projects.”
