As part of the process to modernise and enhance its production process, Goonvean Aggregates Ltd. has recently invested in a new conveying system, structures and feed bins, all supplied, designed, manufactured, installed and supported by Quarry Manufacturing & Supplies (QMS).
Since its foundation in 1931, Goonvean Aggregates Ltd., based in Cornwall, has been a privately-owned operation with strong foundations and an extensive heritage in processing aggregates. It is proud of its Cornish roots and independent status as a major supplier of aggregates, sands and gravels.
The company is also adept at supplying its high quality materials further afield, having a wealth of experience in processing, washing and producing an extensive range of granite based secondary aggregates. These materials are used to serve a comprehensive range of markets including construction, highways, sports, leisure and agriculture, meeting the required quality standards for the most demanding of projects.
Goonvean Aggregates Ltd.’s customer focused ethos recently led the company to assess its aggregate production process. Following this, the company decided to upgrade and modernise its conveying system, along with the structural towers and feed bins. To this end, the company commissioned QMS to design, manufacture and install a new conveying system, along with the required structures and feed bins.
In addition to its award-winning range of crusher and screens, QMS offers a selection of feeders, hoppers and conveyors, essential components for an efficient aggregate production operation. Its comprehensive range of feeders, hoppers and conveyors is specifically designed to handle large quantities of bulk material, ensuring even and consistent feeding into crushing and screening plants. In addition, it has a full array of ancillary equipment, which is customisable to meet the unique requirements of any installation. Each piece is 100% manufactured and built at the company’s Coalville UK manufacturing facility, ensuring the highest quality and reliability.
“The QMS range of standard and bespoke conveyors is designed and engineered in-house using the latest in design and manufacturing techniques. This enabled us to provide Goonvean Aggregates Ltd. with an optimal design that incorporates simplicity in installation and inspection combined with ease of transportation. The conveyor design not only increases stockpile capacity but also reduces onsite material-handling, making the system an essential part of Goonvean Aggregates Ltd. efficient operations,” explained QMS Managing Director, Jonathan Beck.
Of the specific installation at Goonvean Aggregates Ltd., Jonathan continued: “QMS installation and support personnel are fully trained with appropriate certification including MPQC safety passports, management of lifting operations, confined space, hot work, access platforms, LGV class C+E, lorry mounted crane operators. Our installation engineers are high skilled and time served. Their vast experience working with all brands of crushing equipment makes them experts in the field so customers can rest assured that its operations and equipment are in good hands.”
The new QMS designed and installed plant became operational in October 2024 and is now fully contributing to Goonvean Aggregates Ltd.’s drive to supply more of its products, not only throughout the Southwest of England, but the rest of the UK as well. “We were pleased to be asked to design, manufacture and install the conveyors and other equipment at Goonvean Aggregates Ltd.’s Melbur quarry.
