Chris Osborne – Territory Manager – Euro Auctions, commented: “Leeds is Leeds. It’s the largest live auction in Europe for construction, agricultural, lifting and access equipment and commercial vehicles. The sale and volume of lots on offer fluctuates between 6,500 and 7,500 lots at each Euro Auctions sale.

“The Leeds auction is without doubt the most respected sale of its type anywhere in Europe and because we have global reach and global links with sales sites in other countries, we are adept at bringing consignments into this sale not just from the UK but from consignors around the globe. And this is the strength that allows us to fill the sale yard with this amount of equipment every six weeks. The sheer volume and quality of machines we attract, and ourcompetitive commission rates is why vendors sell with us and why buyers buy from us.

“This June sale presented no surprises for us. Prices were as solid as we as we expected them to be after the price drop in 2023. From December onwards we have seen stability in this market and prices have been strong for the last six months. With many of our large consigners completing their fleet adjustments in the early part of this year, which is normal in our market and the volumes in our previous sales of 2024 have reflected this. We now have a stable market and for people buying and selling it’s much easier to trade in the market conditions we are currently experiencing.

“Finance repossessions have been increasing and as a result we are seeing more fresh equipment coming to auction, in the 1 to 2 years old bracket, which predictably in real terms, when traded, have lost value from new prices and this provides seemingly good value for buyers. The other trend we are seeing is that some rental companies are extending the ageprofile of their fleet and hanging on to machines for a little longer in order to see a better ROI when it comes to replacing. I think the significant increase over the last few years in new machine prices has played a big factor in this.

“We continue to attract and offer good ranges and volumes of access and lifting equipment and this side of our business continues to flourish. The commercial vehicle side of business also strengthens with 650 plus commercial vehicles and trucks in this sale and our customers continue to pleasantly surprisedat both the quantity and quality of vehicles we attract to all auctions. In demand and making particularly strong prices at this sale were all makes and models of tippers, grab lorries, heavy haulage tractor units, trailers and plant lorries.

“In terms of what was selling well at Leeds in June 2024, the heavy-sidewas in demand right now with large examples of dozers dump trucks and 50t plus excavatorswere bid on hard and making good money.”
