Sandvik UK restructuring good news for Ballygawley, says Foster

Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster has welcomed the relocation of 160 jobs to Ballygawley by Sandvik AB, the Swedish multinational engineering group.

Sandvik AB says the company is to consolidate its UK manufacturing of mobile screens and crushers to the Sandvik site at Ballygawley.

Commenting on the announcement Arlene Foster said: “This announcement is a tremendous endorsement of the staff and management at the Ballygawley site. Not only does it demonstrate the strength of the manufacturing expertise and capability available but it is also a significant and a welcome boost to the local economy.

“Although the last few years have been extremely difficult for material handling companies, the Sandvik site at Ballygawley has grown into a strong and innovative company exporting its products worldwide. The company has made continuous improvements to ensure the company is in the best possible place to capitalise on future opportunities within the sector.

“The fact that the company has chosen Ballygawley as its sole production site is positive news for Northern Ireland and it will allow us to continue to build on our already strong reputation in this sector.”

The Minister added: “The decision obviously impacts those who are currently employed at the Derbyshire facility and I know the company is currently in discussions with those who will be affected to ensure they have access to a wide range of support measures.”
